Tokyo, 7 July 2021 – TE Capital Partners (“TEC”) is pleased to announce that it has acquired a strategic stake in Tokyo Trust Capital Co., Ltd (“Tokyo Trust” at www.ttcap.co.jp ). With its stake in Tokyo Trust, TEC joins Tokyo Trust founders – industry veterans Minoru Machida and Yuji Tomoda, and MA Platform Inc. (an investment company owned by Akira Mori, Chairman of Japanese developer Mori Trust Co., Ltd. at www.ma-pf.jp ), in advancing the growth of Tokyo Trust’s cross border real estate investment business anchored in Japan through strategic
cooperation and joint investments in Japan and other major global markets.

The unique strategy of Tokyo Trust in focusing on both inbound and outbound investment capital flows connected to Japan has resonated well with TEC. Post TEC’s acquisition of its strategic stake, there will be no operational changes to Tokyo Trust and the firm will continue to operate as an independent manager while leveraging on the extensive networks of its shareholders to access both inbound and outbound opportunities for its investors. Tokyo Trust is led by Minoru Machida as the Chief Executive Officer and Yuji Tomoda as the Managing Director.

Minoru Machida was the Managing Director and Representative in Japan for Aetos Japan LLC, a subsidiary of international real estate manager, Aetos Capital Real Estate, where he led its startup in 2001 as co-head and is instrumental to Aetos’ initial fund. Over the course of his career, Mr Machida held other senior roles in GE Commercial Finance as well as Warburg Pincus as Head of Japan for Corporate Private Equity and Real Estate.

Yuji Tomoda was the Director for Aetos Japan LLC, where he drove its inbound and outbound strategies. Over the course of his career, Mr Tomoda has held other senior roles in GMAC Commercial Mortgage Japan, Unified Partners, and Ishin Hotels Group, where he led acquisition,
asset management, loan origination and CMBS functions.

In addition to the credentials of Tokyo Trust’s leadership, the team has held previous roles at international managers and major banks such as Goldman Sachs, LaSalle Investment Management, Aetos Japan LLC, State Street Global, Shinsei Bank, Aozora Bank and Development Bank of Singapore (DBS).
